Author and Trainer: Maryna Melnyk (SkillsUp Training Center).
Context and Prerequisites
In the dynamic environment of retail development, the speed of decision-making and process flexibility become key competitive advantages. The VARUS company has launched an Agile transformation program.
Key Program Objectives
During the program preparation stage, the following priority tasks were identified:
- Introduction to Agile: Familiarize the company's executive team with Agile approaches to product development, core values, and principles.
- Working through Scrum: Explore Scrum as a project management framework, breaking down key concepts and tools.
- Overview of SAFe: Introduce training participants to the SAFe concept.
- Practical Implementation: Practically create and evaluate requirements for the company's real products for their subsequent implementation.
Solution Architecture: Course Structure
The training program was divided into two intensive days that combined an overview of agile methodologies with practical immersion into planning processes.
- Day 1: AGILE AND SCRUM: Helicopter View. Why Agile and not traditional approaches? Principles and values. Specifics of intra-team interaction. Roles, artifacts, and events in Scrum. Working with the client and gathering requirements.
- Day 2: AGILE PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT. Agile planning. Techniques for estimating Agile projects. Release and Sprint planning. Team performance metrics. Multi-team work and interaction planning.
From Intuitive Management to Systemic Efficiency
Agile transformation at the C-level is not just a change in terminology; it is a change in the company's DNA. Thanks to this program, VARUS top management received not only a toolkit but also a unified coordinate system for decision-making.
- Synchronization of Visions: Business and IT departments started speaking the same language, critically reducing the risks of misunderstandings at the project launch stage.
- Accelerated Time-to-Market: Implementing Scrum approaches allows for faster hypothesis testing and the rollout of new services for the chain's customers.
- Focus on Value: The shift from traditional project management to product thinking, where real benefit for the end consumer comes first.
Collaboration Results
The training program became a powerful step in the company's overall Agile transformation. The company's top management was introduced to the SAFe concept and gained a deep understanding of the Scrum framework. The main applied result of the course was that during the practical part, requirements for the company's products were created and evaluated for further implementation.
